DIVERSITIES VI – translated on May 30, 2021

 

Rather strange is that diversity:

which process turns one into a criminal

while his brother a pure honesty

will show along his life and be generous,

while the next is egotistical and cunning?

What leads one toward generosity

while another seeks only his own pleasure

and takes falseness as single standard?

Why so few are those who can

change themselves along their natural lives,

when all others remain throughout the same?

Is it for their own merit that they follow

the same virtue someday they had chosen

or where they born different from the most...?

DIVERSIDADES VI

 

É muito estranha essa diversidade:

qual o processo que faz um criminoso,

enquanto seu irmão honestidade

demonstra toda a vida e é dadivoso,

porém o outro por egoísmo é um ardiloso?

O que nos leva à generosidade,

ao passo que outrem busca o próprio gozo

e toma por padrão a falsidade?

Por que tão poucos são os que conseguem

se transformar ao longo desta vida,

mas permanecem os outros sempre iguais?

É por mérito próprio que perseguem

essa virtude a que deram guarida

ou já nasceram diversos dos demais?
